Welcome to Clondalkin Family Practice!
We celebrated Clondalkin Family Practice's 3rd birthday on 3rd October 2025 and have now been in the Clondalkin Primary Care Centre for 18 month. Our team has continued to grow over the last year and you can read more about us here. As of July 2025, there will be five doctors at CFP as well as the rest of our excellent clinical and administrative teams.
We are constantly trying to improve the clinic and really want to provide a great clinical service to our patients. As always, if you have any comments or feedback, please have a word with our practice manager Ann. Please find clinic updates below.
New Patients
We will be reopening applications for registration after the Easter break. Dr King has been granted a medical card list by the HSE which means that our clinic can now accept additional Medical Card (GMS) and Doctor Visit Card (DVC) patients. As a result, for the next intake of new patients we will only be accepting patients with either a full Medical Card or a Doctor Visit Card. We will be accepting private patients again in the future, most likely in about two months' time.
Many private patients may be eligible for a Doctor Visit Card but have not applied - if you would like to look into applying for a Medical Card or a Doctor Visit Card, please visit to HSE website HERE. If you require a doctor to stamp your application form, please attend the clinic.
Clinic Updates
New service - Roaccutaine (Isotretinoin) Treatment for Acne
We are pleased to announce that Dr Irina Berkun has completed additional specialist training and is now able to prescribe Roaccutaine (isotretinoin) for appropriate patients with moderate to severe acne.
Traditionally, patients needed to wait for a hospital dermatology appointment to access this treatment, which resulted in long waiting times. Following this additional training, we are now able to offer assessment and treatment within the practice.
How the service works - Roaccutaine is a powerful medication that requires careful monitoring. Treatment involves a structured programme of care:
Initial Comprehensive Consultation - A detailed consultation with the doctor to assess whether Roaccutaine is safe and suitable for you. This includes a full medical review and discussion of risks, benefits and monitoring requirements.
Ongoing monitoring - If treatment is commenced, patients will require monthly follow-up appointments for safety monitoring. These visits typically involve a brief review with the nurse and may include blood tests and contraception advice where appropriate.
Important Information - The treatment requires regular monitoring and careful supervision. The service is not covered by the medical card - specialist private consultation and monitoring fees apply - see under Fees.
If you are interested in discussing whether Roaccutaine might be suitable for you, please contact reception and request a Roaccutaine Initial Consultation. Please note: Roaccutaine is only prescribed when clinically appropriate following a full assessment.
Contacting the Clinic
Since moving to Boot Rd, our new number is (01) 9125290. When you call the clinic during office hours, you will be given a number of options via a voice menu including the option to leave a voicemail if you wish to cancel / reschedule an appointment, request a prescription or request a note for work or social welfare cert. A staff member will then get in touch with you in relation to one of these 3 specific requests.
In order to make an appointment, you will need to hold and speak with a member of staff in person as we will need to appropriately triage the request. We will not be able to respond voicemails requesting appointments or advice on clinical issues.
The option to request results, prescriptions, certs for work, appointments for smear tests etc via the website remains active and we encourage patients to use this as a first option if they have the ability to do so.
Giving us 24 hours notice if you cannot attend your appointment is incredibly important. It is very frustrating for us when a patient does not show and has not given us notice as it means a wasted slot that could have been used for another of our patients who may need to be seen urgently. Please remember to cancel appointments online or by phone as soon as possible.
Introducing Dr Edmond Power and Dr Niall O'Gorman

As Dr McGowan leaves, we are delighted to introduce our two new GP Registrars - Dr Edmond Power and Dr Niall O'Gorman. They will be with us until July 2026 and we're sure many of our patients will get to know them well in the year ahead.
You can read more about them and the extensive previous experience here.

Notice re Artifical Intelligence Scribe Use at CFP
We are always looking at ways of innovating in order to offer you the best possible GP experience. A recent development at Clondalkin Family Practice has been the introduction of what is known as an
"AI scribe". This is a software tool that we sometimes use to document our consultations in order to free us up from typing so that we can turn to you and give you our full attention. If you have any questions about this, feel free to speak with the doctor who is seeing you.
